Finally tired of working on a small wobbly worktop – two plastic trestles and an old door – I decided to build something decent. Some research on the internet revealed the ‘Paulk Ultimate Workbench’, designed by Ron Paulk. He produced a set of videos on YouTube showing the various stages of building the workbench, and has released the design as a downloadable PDF for a nominal charge. The end result is a portable workbench 1.2m x 2.4m (standard sheet size) which splits in half and can quickly be set up and taken down and will easily fit into a small van or trailer. One of its clever features is the double layer construction, which adds strength whilst minimising weight, and provides somewhere to store the tools you are currently using keeping the worktop clear. Destined to become a classic design. If you want to see more of Ron Paulk’s designs or watch the videos type ‘Paulk Workbench’ into your favourite browser.
I will almost certainly be using this workbench on your project!
(My apologies for the quality of the pictures. As you will see a new workshop is planned for the near future which will be lighter and more spacious!)
